One Month

As of yesterday, Wyatt is now one month old. Here are some of his favorite things.

  • He is 23 inches long
  • He loves to be held
  • He loves eating, and does it whenever his mom is awake
  • He LOVES baths. He hates to get in the bath and out of it but he loves being in the bath tub.
  • He loves being "thrown" into the air. No we don't let go of him yet and we hold his head to make sure he doesn't hurt himself.
  • He loves being warm
  • He likes being in the car most of the time except when he is hungry
  • He loves having a clean diaper and promptly makes it messy again.
  • He likes looking around at new places and likes to walk around the house with Dad and Mom
  • Always has a confused look on his face

Ogden Temple Open House

Over Labor day weekend Liz's mom and Grandma came to stay with us. we had the opportunity to go to the Ogden Temple open House. The temple was amazing and really beautiful. I can't wait until I get to go there regularly to feel the spirit and be closer to my Father in Heaven.

Here is a family picture:

First Week Home

The first week we were home, we had lots of visitors. Grandma Scott, Charleigh, and Windsor came and brought balloons and some other decorations for the apartment. They also brought us dinner for Tuesday night. The next day Emilee came and visited us

Jeff had enough time off work to stay home the entire first 2 weeks after wyatt was born which was incredibly nice.

On Friday, Wyatt got to meet Ryan and Emerald for the first time.

Here are pictures of Wyatt from the first week.

Wyatt's Birth Story

On August 16th, I woke around 5 am with really bad pains in my stomach. After about a minute the pain went away. Then about 10 minutes later it started again. This went on for 2 hours. I figured I was having contractions but my doctor said to wait until the contractions were about 5 minutes apart before going to the hospital so I started to time them. After 7, they started getting closer together. Unfortunately, the contractions stopped almost completely around 8:30 am. I continued to have mild contractions for the rest of the day but they were not very consistent.

The contractions started getting consistent again around 6 pm that night. They started out coming every 10 minutes again. By 10 pm the contractions were coming every 6 minutes and I was in a lot of pain. So I told jeff we needed to go to the hospital. I knew we had an hour drive to the hospital so the contractions would be about 5 minutes apart by the time we got there. (For those of you who don't know, Jeff and I moved up to Sunset Utah, which is just south of Ogden, in June but I have still been seeing a doctor in Provo so we had to go to the hospital down in orem to deliver the baby.)

We got to the Timpanogos Regional Hospital around 11 pm. The nurse checked my cervix and I was dilated to 4 cm. She said that she would check back in an hour to see if anything had changed to make sure I was in active labor and then they would admit me. Well I didn't last that long. About a half hour later I was in a ton of pain and had thrown up twice since I had been in the hospital. So the nurse checked me again and I was dilated to 5 cm and she then called the anesthesiologist to come in and give me an epidural.

The nurse had to put an iv in me before they could give me an epidural though which turned out to be harder than they thought. I got poked 5 times by 3 different nurses and none of them could get an iv in my veins. So the anesthesiologist finally came in and tried. He finally got the iv in a vein in the back of my right hand but couldn't get any blood out of it for testing. So he also poked me in my left wrist to take blood for testing. But I finally had an iv in so they could give me an epidural. By this time the contractions were coming close to 3 minutes apart and lasting about 90 seconds each. I had also thrown up 2 more times. But finally they got the epidural in me, which didn't hurt as much as I thought it would.

This is me after the epidural:

After that I literally didn't feel anything below my ribcage. It was awesome. I honestly don't know how people do natural childbirth and I am really impressed with anyone who decides to go that way. Anyways after the epidural I fell asleep, because at this point it was around 1 in the morning and I had been up since 5 am. I pretty much slept until around 8 am with the occasional visits from the nurse through out the night to check my cervix. Around 7 am I was dilated to 10 cm and the nurses broke my water around 8 am. They then said that we would wait a little bit for the baby to go down naturally so I didn't have to push for so long.

Around 9 am, a nurse came in and started having me push. I pushed through 2 contractions before she had me stop. She said the baby was crowning but also that the baby's heart rate was dropping whenever I pushed, so we just waited for the doctor to get there. He came in around 9:45 am and I started pushing. I pushed through 4 or 5 contractions and then wyatt was born at 10:12 am on August 17th, 2014. He had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, that was why his heart rate would drop whenever I pushed but in the end everyone was fine.

Here is the first picture of Wyatt with Dr. Baxter:

They put an oxygen mask on me to try and keep Wyatt's heart rate up during delivery.

Wyatt weighed 7 lbs 11 oz when he was born and was 21 inches long.

After about 10 minutes I got to hold him for the first time. They had to check his breathing and everything due to the cord being wrapped around his neck.

The nurse at the hospital made the most adorable name card for him.

After all the excitement of the morning, wyatt and I took a much needed nap.

The first visitors in the hospital were Grandma and Grandpa Scott with Charleigh and Windsor.

Then Wendy and Reed Farnsworth came to see us.

That night we slept very well. We actually had a really hard time waking Wyatt up. He never wanted to eat which worried the nurses a lot. So I had to use a breast pump and fed wyatt with a syringe while he was asleep.

First Family Photo

We were discharged from the hospital the morning of Tuesday August 19th. Wyatt got to wear his ninja turtles outfit ( which happens to be Jeff's favorite) on the way home.
