We went down to southern Utah last week for some family fun. While we were there we saw Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.
We got to Arches around 1 pm. It was pretty hot but we went into the visitors center there and had lunch outside at a picnic table.
We then drove through the park to the trail head for delicate arch.
We started off with Jeff carrying Spencer, Liz carrying Connor, and Wyatt walking. Wyatt was complaining for the first 5 minutes of the hike.
Then we switched. So Liz carried Spencer and Jeff carried Connor and Wyatt on his shoulders. Jeff told Wyatt that he had to give him breaks though. Surprisingly, Wyatt actually walked about 2/3 of the trail up to the arch. We found that if we distracted him by pointing out signs and telling him to see what that sign said (they all said "trail" btw) and then saying lets find the next shady spot to take a break, Wyatt would keep walking just fine. We made it up the 1.5 mile trail in about an hour and 15 minutes.
Then Jeff carried Spencer on the way down while Liz carried Connor and Wyatt walked the whole trail back to the car. We made it in about an hour.
The funniest part of the whole experience was when we were done, Wyatt said, " Mom, I need to go to bed because my feet are tired!"
We then drove farther south to Canyonlands National Park. We went to the Needles Outpost part of the Park. For your information, Canyonlands is a huge national park. There are 3 parts to the park, with 3 separate entrances and no way to drive between entrances. We did see some pretty great canyons on our drive to our campground. Sorry we didn't get any pictures of those, Liz was driving and therefore she could not take pictures.
We camped in the park that night.
The next day we explored a little bit.
Then we headed farther south to Blanding Utah and the annual Windsor Family Camp at Nizhoni Campground. Stay tuned for the next post for pictures of the rest of the week.
