Fall Break in California

We spent Wyatt's first fall break camping in California. We left Wednesday right after Wyatt got out of school and made it all the way to St. George Utah where we stayed the night. The next day we continued our drive to Death Valley National Park in California. We left 40-50 degree weather in Utah for 97 degrees in Death Valley. It was hot!

We explored the visitors center there. Death Valley has 3 things they are known for. It has the highest recorded temperature recorded on earth at 134 degrees Fahrenheit. It is the lowest elevation on the North American Continent at 282 ft below sea level. It averages 2 in of rain every year making it the driest place in North America. Those are just some of the things we learned about in the visitors center.

We then headed outside and explored the sand dunes there in the park. The boys had a lot of fun playing in the sand and looking at rocks. Spencer and Wyatt didn't last long because it was so hot but I don't think Connor would have ever left if we didn't make him.

Connor loved walking up and down all of the dunes. He got better at staying upright the more he walked in the sand.

After the dunes we got back in the car and drove about an hour outside of the park to our camp site. It was a balmy 70 degrees there which was a welcome relief after the heat. We were right next to a creek which the boys loved exploring.

We then made dinner and went to bed.
The next day we headed farther north to Yosemite National Park. This park had a lot of water and a lot of rocks for the boys to climb all over. We also saw a few animals and lots of trees and mountains.

We didn't get to go into a visitor's center though because the one on the side of the park that we went in on was closed. The we went back to the campsite and have fun playing there.

The boys got really dirty but we had a great time!
