This year for the Anderson Family Reunion we headed to Florida. When Liz was planning this trip she decided to fly to Fort Lauderdale instead of Orlando and see the 2 of the National Parks that are in Southern Florida before we drove up to Orlando to meet the rest of the family.
We got to the airport on Sunday night and flew out of Salt Lake at 11:00 PM. The boys loved looking at the airplanes outside. The pilot on our plane also gave them all wings to pin on their shirts.
After we arrived in Fort Lauderdale, we got our rental car and went and grabbed some breakfast. Then we headed to Everglades National Park first. It was really hot but we got to see some cool animals. We went on the Anhinga Trail, which took us around a pond. We saw some cool birds, lots of lizards, turtles, and fish. We didn't make it all the way to the end of the trail because the boys were tired and hot but it was fun.
We then got back in the car and went to Walmart. There we got some snacks for the week ahead in Disney World and also stuff for lunch that day. Then we headed to Biscayne National Park. The boys stayed in the car because they were napping but Liz got to walk around the park and go inside the visitors center. There is not much to see at this park because it is mostly coral reef under the water, however if you are ever looking for a place to scuba dive of snorkel I would recommend it because the pictures in the visitor center looked awesome. Maybe next time I am in Miami with just Jeff we will do that.
Then we headed up the coast a little ways. We went to Pompano Beach and all the boys got to go in the Atlantic Ocean for the first time. It had been really hot all day so this was their favorite part of the day.
They even had a splash pad that the boys got to play at when they were done playing in the salt water.
After that we headed up to Orlando to meet the Anderson Family but you will have to read the next post to hear about that...
